Our History

Madrasa-e-Danishgah Al Najaf

A world of Islamic knowledge that provides education during Ramadan

This happened 41 years ago when Shaukat Ali Mamdani and his friends noticed that kids were coming to Masjid Hussain for snacks during Ramadan but weren’t really praying, and those who did were kinda zoning out. So, in 1984, they started a school called “Madrasa Ahliyan-e-Hasnain Society” for these snack-loving kids.

Shaukat Ali Mamdani and his team were determined to teach these kids about prayers and basic beliefs in a way that they wouldn’t mess up the basics later in life. Shaukat Ali Mamdani, Ali Haider Nayani, Altaf Nayani, and Asad Bhai were the pious members who started this school in front of Altaf Nayani’s house.

They first got in touch with the parents of the kids coming for snacks in Masjid Hasnain and got permission to teach them prayers, and this way, This Madrasa started.

Over the years, the school moved to different places, from Altaf Niani’s plot to Ghulam Hussain’s house, and even ran for a while in a merchant’s house. It went through many changes, but the team kept it going.

The school went by different names, from “Madrasa Ahliyan-e-Hasnain Society” to “Madrasa Atfal” and then “Madrasa Hasnain and Jaffer-e-Tayyar.” For the past 25 years, it’s been called the ” Madrasa-e-Danishgah Al Najaf.”

In the early days, on the 27th day of Ramadan, they gave prizes to kids who did well in Madrasa exams. Nowadays, they give valuable prizes like laptops to kids who get first, second, and third place.

This Madrasa started with just a few members but now has a bunch of students. It didn’t just attract students from Jaffar-e-Tayyar but also from other areas like Mohammadi Dera, Mustafaabad, Hussaini Sifarat Khana, Khokhra Par, and more.

Zaheer Haider, a teacher from the Madrasa, even started a school like it in Abbas Town, and it’s been running for 23 years.

The success of this Madrasa is partly because the first students who graduated became teachers and helped make the Madrasa better. Some of these members were Aziz-ul-Islam, Dilshad Hussain, Imran Kazmi, Qamar Imam, Husain Abbas (Raju), Shakir Hussain, Shahzad, Mohsin-ul-Islam, Muhammad Ali Changazi, Mubashir Mehdi, Shabih Bhai, Haider Bhai, and more.

The Madrasa kept growing, and more pious and interested people like Mohsin Raza, Liaqat Ali Changezi, Yusuf Ali Changezi, Sajjad Ali Changezi, Faheem Raza, Zaheer, Qamber, Muhammad Ali, Maulana Farakh, Dilawar Mehdi, Ahmed Raza, Zawar Ahmed, Maisam Abbas, Jerry Kazmi, Qawi Kazmi, Ali Haider (Kausar), Ansar Imam, and Kazim joined to make the school even better.

Now, the Madrasa has a properly researched and enhanced curriculum for every level, from the first level to the last. They even made books for each level. These books are so helpful that even other Madaris in Karachi use them. Professor Dr. Zahid Ali Zahidi played a big role in making the books.

Right now, Professor Dr. Zahid Ali Zahidi, Shaukat Ali Mamdani, and Maulana Farakh are taking care of the school. Imran Kazmi, Dilshad Hussain, Aziz-ul-Islam, Mohsin Raza, Mubashir Mehdi, Dilawar Mehdi, Mohsin-ul-Islam, and their team are running the Madrasa in a super organized way.

In a time where good religious education is hard to find, the Madrasa-e-Danishgah Al Najaf Jaffer-e-Tayyar is a big blessing for people in Jafar Tayyar and Surroun.

Let’s say a prayer (Surah Fatiha) for Rukn Ali Haider Niani, the person who started the Madrasa and passed away last month.
